the champagne pool covers an area of about 3000 square meters and occupies a 700 year old explosion crater. the name comes from the fact that the water is champagne coloured and bubbles as carbon dioxide is discharged into the pool. the surface water temperature of 74°C can generate a hot steam. among the many minerals being deposited in the rock that surrounds the pool are antiimony, mercury, thallium, gold and silver. you'll find more information on the
